A bit of history… did you know?
The Advent Calendar is a rather young festive tradition; its history only begins in the 19th century. While it was initially intended for children to ease the anticipation of festivities, today adults also enjoy the Advent tradition.
The idea first came to a bookshop in Hamburg in 1902, which decided to publish the first calendar printed in the form of a Christmas clock for children.
The Advent Calendar as we know it today, with little opening doors, appeared around 1920 in Germany and soon spread throughout Europe.
