What is in store for the 6th edition of Make Your Move?
It will be a relaunch edition, after the smaller editions we proposed during the pandemic period. It will therefore be a full edition, echoing that of 2019. From the dance point of view we will host again the Swiss Hip Hop International championship, organised by the City and bringing more than 40 crews from all over Switzerland to Lugano. Speaking of the championship, there will be a novelty, namely the introduction of the world battle dedicated exclusively to Swiss dancers or those resident in the territory, whose winners will be able to represent Switzerland at the world championship. The performances will be judged by top names, known and supported by important brands – guests who will perform in turn and give master classes. As always, there will be a recreational part that intends to bring young people closer to urban activities, including skate, graffiti and parkour – in this regard, another novelty is that we will be bringing one of the three selection stages of the Swiss Series Parkour to Lugano, which will see the participation of thirty elite athletes.

How will the programme unfold?
Friday will be dedicated to all forms of dances that go beyond street dance. First, there will be performances by the local schools – the schools are very keen to bring their students to perform on such an important stage as the Palazzo dei Congressi. The evening will continue with the Fiesta Latina for lovers of Caribbean dances, and the Milonga for tango lovers.
On Saturday and Sunday, the urban village will be set up, with the recreational part for families on Piazza Castello, while dance and drawing workshops will be held in the Palazzo dei Congressi, and there will also be an area dedicated to children with games of all kinds. The main event on Saturday will be the Swiss Hip Hop International Championship, which will last all day and will see more than 40 crews from all over Switzerland compete – the winners will be able to take part in the world championship that will take place in the summer in Phoenix, USA. Also, on Saturday there will be a parkour competition which can be watched on Piazza Castello.
On Sunday family activities will continue, while for the more experienced there will be two master classes held by judges, as well as the world battle and the school show – this time with a distinctly street dance slant.

Several guests are coming to Lugano. Who are they?
The guests we have invited will be the judges of the competition, who in turn will perform exclusive shows and give master classes. One great guest is Matteo Santoro aka Voldo, from French-speaking Switzerland – winner of the Dance Your Style competition promoted by Red Bull as the best Swiss dancer and who participated in the finals held in South Africa in January; with the award-winning duo Cooper & Voldo he will stage a fantastic show about altruism (a preview is available on youtube). Our star DJ for the two days will be Barbara Cilluffo, a Sicilian DJ with extensive experience in battle and street dance.

The competition involves more than 40 crews from all over Switzerland.
Yes, this year we received numerous entries from both Ticino and beyond Gotthard. Some crews are veterans by now, while others have signed up for the first time – this shows that we are slowly becoming a strong and important event; it is nice that one of the circuits is in Ticino and that it is part of a worldwide network. Most of the crews come from Ticino and French-speaking Switzerland, in particular from Lausanne, Fribourg and Berne; this year, however, we have achieved our goal of increasing the participation of crews from German-speaking Switzerland. Among the more than 40 crews there are four who will defend their title as Swiss champions: Slomo and Blaze from Roveredo, Meiz and Black Diamond’s The Last from French-speaking Switzerland. In order to register, the crews have to meet precise criteria, such as belonging to a certain age group, knowing regulations that are always being updated (for example, this year’s novelty is the introduction of the Junior Varsity Mega Crew, i.e. a crew of 10 to 40 members, made up of people under 18). Surely this represents an important event for the crews: they start training in the summer, creating formations and choreographies; a tremendous job, made of dedication and commitment.

Various activities will take place in Piazza Castello. What atmosphere will there be?
Trusting in good weather, there will be a playful, free, village atmosphere. Children will have the opportunity to try out new activities, or refine their knowledge and receive advice. There will be a good party atmosphere. Thanks to the support of Red Bull, there will also be music and DJ sets on the square, providing a pleasant music in the background.

Make Your Move is from 10 to 12.03 at the Palazzo dei Congressi.
